No Accommodation for Jesus

Hebrews 11:29-40

Some employees at a large international banking firm met weekly for Bible study and prayer on their lunch hour. They used an available conference room for their meetings. This all ended when an executive who attended the group received an email from the human resources department informing him that “the group was not allowed to have organized religious meetings on-site.”* This despite the fact that other groups formed around race or sexual identity were permitted. Laws protecting religious expression at work require employers to make a “reasonable accommodation” for those beliefs. The interpretation of what constitutes a “reasonable accommodation” varies widely by company or location.

Jesus knew it would be this way. Some are denied far more than a meeting room. He warned His followers they could be insulted, persecuted, even lied about for His name’s sake. He told them to count it a blessing. They are in good company. With all true believers they have “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade” (1 Peter 1:4).
