1 John 2:15-29

There are so many voices these days. With the proliferation of the internet, everyone seems to have the ability to voice their own opinions about any and every subject. Suddenly, there is so much noise, it is difficult to filter out the voices (false prophets) that lead people astray.

Obviously, we need to use Scripture as our key filter. In other words, if there is a voice that disagrees or misuses Scripture, that is a voice that isn’t worth listening to. However, we also need to use an under-utilized help in this arena. There is strength, wisdom, and discernment in the body of Christ. Not only do we need to look to leadership for guidance, but the discipleship process through covenant relationship helps keep us on the path of the straight and narrow.

I reflect on some of the conversations I’ve had in the past, where my friends have said, “All I need is God. I don’t need the church.” Any of us who are serious about discipleship recognize that we need the church because we need each other. We walk this journey as disciples of Jesus and we encourage each other along the way.
