What Will He Become?

Luke 1:57-80
Reports of famous people expecting babies are all over the news. Celebrity reporters and fans speculate about what the child will look like. It is the same in most families. Will this child look like her mother or father? Will he become a doctor? Will she become president?
In Luke 1, Elizabeth and Zechariah were expecting a baby after a very long wait. The unusual circumstances led their neighbors to wonder, “‘What then is this child going to be?’ For the Lord’s hand was with him” (v. 66b). Zechariah’s response came from the Holy Spirit, “And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins” (vv. 76-77). God was already at work using this child as a part of His plan of salvation. He will be a prophet and prepare the way for the Messiah.
God’s plan began long ago. Whatever the circumstances of our lives, Jesus comes and brings salvation.
