Hope Comes From Remembering

Psalm 42:1-11

Remember–It’s a powerful theme throughout all of Scripture. Remember what God has done; write it on the door posts, tell your children, strap it to your head. Remember! When the people of God forget terrible things happen. When Moses was up on the mountain so long the people somehow forgot what God had done for them when He freed them from slavery. “Let’s build a calf,” they said. “Let’s say this calf we have made is the one who has saved us.” They forgot.

When we forget we lose spiritual sight, hope, and the life that comes from God. In the midst of the sorrow that inevitably comes, the attacks from others that will come, the pain that afflicts our bodies we need to remember.

Remember what God has done through the ages. Remember what God has done through the church, even though it is flawed. Remember what God has done in the lives of others. Remember what God has done in your life. Hope requires remembering. One day we will look upon these nights of weeping, these days of sorrow and we will remember how God has brought us through.
