Keys To Life

1 Samuel 28:15-25

What are the keys to life? Saul, hand-picked by God and a “mighty leader,” groveled in desperation. Tormented by his willful choices to disobey, he selfishly tried to blame it on the people. Samuel would have none of it then nor would he now, even from the grave.

“Because you did not obey the Lord . . .” (v. 18), Oh, that we would never, never hear those words! Nature, nurture, peer pressure, culture, corporations, systems, churches and corrupt leaders: none of these are viable excuses for not obeying God. Our relationship with God is built on trust and confidence that God knows what is best for us.

Crying, whining, begging, and pleading for a way out of the consequences of our sins just will not work.

Confession, repentance, worship and obedience, daily humble obedience, despite the prevailing culture and pressures, to the Law of God and the love of Christ Jesus are the keys to life!

It is unfortunate that many of the churches today fail to pass this truth on. We are so consumed with making people comfortable and at ease at church that we forget to share the gospel. We can have all the classes and support groups that are available to help people cope with the issues in their lives but if we fail to share the joy of salvation and affect their lives for eternity we are failing as a church.

I pray that the Church of the Nazarene will stand firm solely on the Word of God.
