Does God Say “Oops”?

1 Samuel 15:24-35

There are plenty of times that I’ve had a change of mind. I’ve made hasty conclusions based on emotion without knowing all the facts.

As human beings, we are fallible; God is not. When Samuel announced that the Lord had rejected Saul as Israel’s king, Saul pleaded for the Lord to reconsider his case. If God knew all the facts, certainly he would see things in a different light! But Samuel responded, “He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man” (v. 29b). God never makes premature decisions. God’s choices are always based on his infinite wisdom and unfailing goodness. We may not always grasp or even agree with his decisions, but that is simply because “[H]is understanding no one can fathom” (Isa. 40:28b).

So the next time that you have to retrace your steps, or make a mid-course correction, or admit “I was wrong” . . . be thankful that you have a God who “is not a man.” His ways are flawless!

Amen to that. So good that he doesn’t make mistakes – even when we sometimes think he does….
