1 Samuel 13:1-15

It was “do or die” time. King Saul faced a massive Philistine army. The prophet Samuel had told him to wait seven days in Gilgal until he showed up to offer sacrifices to the Lord. But the seven days were up, Samuel was nowhere to be found, and the situation was growing more and more dire. So Saul took matters into his own hands: he hastily built the fire and made the offering himself. Moments later, Samuel finally arrived. The king tried to make excuses, but it was too late. Saul’s pattern of impatience would eventually cost him his kingdom.

We all face those “hurry up and do something” situations in our lives. At such times, God instructs us to wait on him first. He offers wisdom, power, and courage that we won’t find in our own frantic actions. God’s timing may slow us down but it will get us farther in the long run. Is it “do or die” time in your life? Before you take action, hurry up and wait on the Lord!
