Remember to Forget

RG AUDIO 011812Psalm 45:10-17

Can you imagine, after the wedding, a bride telling her new groom, “Okay, you can take me home now. If I need you I will call you, but it is time for me to return to my parents.” We cannot imagine anything so absurd, likewise, in our walk with Christ it is not enough to start with him, we must also stay with him. The psalmist is calling for total loyalty. Anything short of that will not work in a marriage or in a relationship with Christ.

As a pastor when I marry a young couple I do not ask them on their wedding day, “Do you know each other?” I ask them, “Are you willing to pledge yourselves to each other for the rest of your days?” When we walk with Christ it is not a casual, “Let’s just see if it will work out.” It is a total commitment–a commitment for life.

Jesus said, “‘If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother . . . even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.’”
