Commit and Trust
January 11th, 2012
RG AUDIO 011112Psalm 37:1-11
The great need in society is for people to be committed. Commitment is the very essence of relationships. Amid the pull and push of life, there is the temptation to be less than fully committed to families, wholesome relationships, church, place of employment, and to Christ’s lordship. We will never be the holy person God desires us to be without full commitment to his reign in our hearts and lives.
Commitment is the act; trust is the ongoing attitude.
In 1941, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill gave a speech to his alma mater, Harrow School, the audience anticipated a great speech. He stood before them and said 18 words: “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.” This was it. The speech was over.
The virtues of commitment and trust equip us to rest in the Lord. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this” (v. 5).
