Miracle Accomplished

November 10th, 2011

We’ve often experienced God “opening and closing doors” in our lives as we seek to follow his will. Holding back a flooding river in plain view as an entire nation walks across on dry land; now there’s a miracle for you! But holding back the river was just part of the miracle. When God’s people were safely over, God restored the river to its original condition as though nothing had ever happened.

Our life experiences are like this. God opens the way and holds the door open. Then he closes the door behind us. We can’t go back, nor would we want to try. In Joshua’s day the presence of the Lord resided in the ark of the covenant. So long as his presence stood in the riverbed, the waters were held back. When his presence moved on to the Promised Land, the floodwaters returned to the Jordan.

What’s our lesson? When God’s presence is with you, when you are in his will, God holds back the evil forces threatening your spiritual life. He will part the waters at the exact place where you need to cross over but he won’t leave you there. His presence will lead you into the Promised Land.
