It’s Not The End

Exodus 2:11-25
Moses could never forget where he came from. Though he was raised in Pharaoh’s household he couldn’t bear to stand by and watch an Egyptian beat “one of his own people.” His intervention resulted in the Egyptian’s death. Even though Moses tried to hide the body the truth came out. Hebrews, even one adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter, did not kill Egyptians and live.
Moses could have done so much for his people. He could have become their advocate inside the royal household. Perhaps he could have become another Joseph and been raised to a place of high authority. He could have become the model Israelite. Perhaps he could have influenced Egyptian opinion favorably. That hope vanished like a mirage with Moses’ rash act. The only thing he could do is run away, literally to the backside of the desert.
Sometimes we are tempted to think that one rash action can ruin God’s plan for our lives forever. For Moses it wasn’t the end of his story, a new chapter was about to begin.
