Romans 10:1-13

In Tennessee it’s illegal to use a lasso to catch a fish. That seems like a silly law to me, but I’m sure, at some point in time, it was an issue. In my mind I get an odd mental picture of riding a horse alongside a lake.

Laws are created for order. The religious laws that were followed before Jesus’ arrival were for rituals, designed to preserve religious order. They were created for the followers of God, the Israelites, but many seem odd and even unnecessary to us today. In Rome, some wanted to gain the benefits of salvation by practicing Old Testament commandments only. In effect, they were trying to ignore the sacrifice of Jesus. But Jesus’ coming was the fulfillment of the very laws that they had clung so tightly to. His arrival, subsequent death, and resurrection trumped it all.

Christ is the bridge that spans the divide between the holy and the sinful.
