Romans 3:1-8

Abraham, an elderly Israeli, was Daryll’s guide during a recent trip to Israel. While he is a man with family values and respect for his rabbi, he communicated that his confidence in the God of Israel had been shaken when millions of Jews lost their lives during the holocaust of World War II. As a citizen of modern Israel he now resides near Jerusalem, the City of Peace, but lives without inner peace. The tour guide was so unlike Abraham, the father of the Jews, who is listed in the hall of faith in the letter to the Hebrews (11:17).

Paul wrote in Romans chapter 3 “What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all!” The guide’s focus was on the atrocities of humanity instead of the true nature of our faithful, eternal God. Along with the Roman Christians, we can be sure God’s “promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring” (4:16).
