A Praise History

Nehemiah 9:9-25

Who ever said history was boring? Nehemiah is a history lesson that is incredibly inspiring. More than facts and dates and names and places, it is the story of God and His people. This is the story of our family–our spiritual ancestors–and how God graciously and kindly led them.

One of our favorite activities in family gatherings is to tell stories. We laugh and cry as we recount memorable events from the past. This is not a historical documentary. This is remembering who we are.

When we recall all the wonderful things God has done, it is not just history; it is “praise history.” If God has been that gracious and loving to our ancestors in the faith, will He be any less for us? “He is not the God of the dead, but of the living” (Luke 20:38). Our past is “praise history.” I firmly believe our future will be a “praise future” as well.
