Promise of Outpouring

Joel 2:28-3:8

Have you visited Niagara Falls? I am awed at the amount of water that keeps pouring over the precipice. It flows and flows and never seems to slow or run thin. The verb “pour” is more lavish than “sprinkle” or “shower.” God is so full of love that He promised to pour out His Spirit in abundance.

And He included you and me, not just the people of Judah.

On the day of Pentecost, the apostle Peter declared the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy, quoting him almost verbatim (Acts 2:17-21). Even in the 21st century, we are a part of that never-ending pouring out of God’s Spirit on all people. “I will pour water on him that is thirsty; I will pour floods upon the dry ground. Open your heart for the gift I am bringing. While you are seeking Me I will be found” (Lucy J. Rider). Rejoice today in God’s loving favor.
