Colossians 1:9-20

He was there in the beginning; He will be there at the end. He was the very Word of creation. Jesus is the summation of all history, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. His existence transcends and fills all creation.

Our minds cannot comprehend His greatness or fathom the depths of His wisdom and love. Yet, He became one of us, not to shame us but to save us. His defining symbol is not one of earthly authority or power, but a symbol of torture and death.

Without Jesus, life cannot hold together. He is the mortar of our destiny. Without Jesus, “the head of the body”, the Church is without life, wisdom, or direction. But with Him, by Him, and through Him, we have all these things and more.

In Him is the peace we were created for and still long for.

Our minds shy away from contemplating the divinity of Jesus because we have no experience, or reference as to what it means to be divine. However, the humanity of Jesus we can relate to because He became just like us in that humanity. He became suseptible to temptation, to hunger, fear, anger, and death. He had to eat, and sleep, drink and exercise just as we do. He had siblings with all the arguments, fighting and loving they entail. He had a mother and father who didn’t understand Him. Because He experienced all that it means to be human. Because He did that, we can never say Jesus doesn’t know what it is like to be in our situation. He too know the soul hurts, feelings of betrayal, feelings of loss, crying out when in pain and facing death. Never, ever say God doesn’t care, or doesnt’ know my pain. Because by becoming a man, Jesus, He knows it all. Our God is the only god who partakes of our lives and life experience. Our God is the only god who became one of us becaue He loves us. Our God is the only god who cares!
