Just Loving Him

In John 14, three strands blend together beautifully from Jesus’ words: to love Him, obey His commands, and receive the provision of the Holy Spirit.
When we were children, we obeyed our parent’s commands. We were told when not to cross the street in traffic, to wear proper clothes in bad weather, and to obey our teachers in school. At the same time, we learned to love our parents because they loved us enough to have us, feed us, and take care of us during those formative years.
This is just a tiny fraction of what Jesus is talking about to His disciples. If we really love Him, we will want to keep His commands. We will love everyone around us and do all we can to care for them. The major bonus for all of us is that we will not be left alone, for we will have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit–the Spirit of Christ to empower us and change our lives forever!
