Empty Jars

“Pray for me,” she sobbed. “I don’t know what my husband will say when I tell him I have been saved.” The church gathered round, praying for her to have courage, and that the Holy Spirit would go before her. The next Sunday, she was back–with her husband and children at her side.

Think of raven-fed Elijah asking the widow to make bread. She was down to her last handful of flour and drop of oil. What great faith she had to go home, tap the last of the flour out of the jar, and shake out the last drop of oil from the jug, knead the dough, and put it in the oven.

We do not know when the miracle happened. The Bible simply says, “The jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry

The widow had to give the last before God gave the rest. What miracles would we see if we followed her fearless example?
