Word processing is a wonderful tool. Words or phrases can be emphasized by underlining, placing them in italics, putting them in bold–or combinations of these. Bold type makes the words stand out, distinguishing them from the rest of the printed page.

Paul’s boldness undoubtedly contributed to the persuasiveness of his argument. The apostles’ boldness is a recurring theme of the Acts. Apollos had spoken boldly in the synagogue at Ephesus about Jesus; now Paul takes three months to attempt to persuade the Jews of the truth of the gospel, before taking his message to the Gentiles. And Paul continues the practice of speaking boldly when he writes to the Ephesians from his prison cell.

Amid the clamor, the din, and the noise of today’s world it is incumbent upon us as modern apostles to declare the Word of God boldly. We must be convinced of the truth of the gospel, convicted of the need to witness, and confident that God’s Word never returns void.
