A Kingdom of Priests

Revelation 1:1-8

Revelation 1 reminds us that Jesus is the One who is and is to come. This whole week has been about what is to come, but it is also about what is and should be now. The truth is, Jesus’ kingdom will come and His reign shall be established with His enemies as a footstool, where no evil will reside.

The call of Revelation 1 is to be His royal priests. We are to be those people washed in the blood of Lamb, speaking words of love, grace, peace, and forgiveness. We are His hands and feet in this tattered world. Still, the problem remains that we’re often too busy to say “hello” to a neighbor. Too busy to rake an elderly neighbor’s leaves or listen to a co-worker’s hurts.

We lose sight that we are His priesthood. We just keep going on our merry way without much thought to those around us. After all, it’s often too messy.

Maybe today it’s time to get messy?
