Hope In The Face of Battles

August 18th, 2024

Psalm 118:15-24

Perhaps you have come face-to-face with death: War. Cancer. Depression. You name it. If you have, you may know what it is to turn the corner and confess, “I will not die, but live!” There is a kind of resurrection in this realization. The psalmist acknowledges the mighty hand of the Lord involved in his suffering—that he was brought low by God. Nevertheless, God saved him from death, and now he deeply desired to be in the presence of God. You can feel the joy of his thanksgiving.

Maybe you are facing death now. Because Christ led the way for us through death into eternal life, you can be assured of the hope of new life. It may come as a new day dawning among the familiar people and places of your life here and now. Or it may come as you follow Christ through death into everlasting life.

Be assured of this: Emmanuel, God is with us. We cannot escape the loving hand of the Lord. May this hope lead us to rejoice!
