What’s In Your Wardrobe?

August 4th, 2024

Colossians 3:12-17

What a person wears can say a lot about him or her. Imagine a surgeon. She is wearing medical scrubs as she prepares for surgery. Now imagine this same surgeon at her daughter’s choir concert. Now she is wearing “civilian” clothing appropriate for the location and occasion.

Many vocations have clothing associated with them in order to keep the person safe, keep the person comfortable while performing the job, and identify what the job is.

We are called by God to “clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12). This clothing helps us live a holy life, identifies us to those around us, and makes performing our job/calling possible. The writer states we are to bear with one another, forgive as Christ forgave, put on love, let Christ’s peace rule our hearts, be thankful, teach, admonish, and give thanks to God in all things.

Only by clothing ourselves in God’s uniform will we be able to live like Christ!
