No Lone Islands

June 28th, 2024

Ephesians 6:18-24

I have not always been very good about asking for help. I would think that for many of us raised in a Western culture, this may also be true.

I recently saw an advertisement for a plan that would allow someone on half an acre of land to become “self-sufficient” in three years. I was fascinated by the intricate diagram of garden beds of various sizes, place for beehives, and other life-sustaining elements. What an amazing idea!

And then I wondered where their milk and bread came from. Sure, perhaps they could barter for those, but the homeowner could not truly live on a lone half-acre island. We need others!

This is also true of those who minister to us. Falling into isolation can be easy—after all, ministers are those to whom we go when we need something. To whom do ministers go when they need something? YOU! The church.

Lift up your ministers in prayer. Write an encouraging note. Buy a cup of coffee. Say a supportive word. Look for ways to pray for your ministers. None of us are lone islands.
