Matthew 5:1-12

JaeUng Cho is a Korean automotive engineer. His specialty is computer-generated crash testing. But I will never forget his sermon on Elisha.

The king of Aram sent a large army to surround Elisha’s city so that they could capture him. Elisha’s servant was terrified, but Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so he may see”. When the servant looked again, he saw that the hills were covered with an angelic army of fire protecting Elisha. What the servant could see with his physical eyes was only the virtual reality. What Elisha and the servant could see in the spiritual realm was the actual reality.

Life is often like that. With our physical eyes, we see poverty, sadness, lack of confidence, dream chasers, naïveté, weakness, compromise, or injustice. This is only the virtual reality. If God opens our eyes, we may see the blessings of God already present or on the way: living the kingdom of God, healing, infinite inheritance, justice satisfied, mercy, seeing God face-to-face, inclusion in God’s family, and great rewards stated in a thousand other ways. This is the actual reality. Lord, open our eyes so we may see!

This reminds me of the epic battle scene in the Lord of the Rings DVD. What a sight it would have been! With God for us who can stand against us?!
