He Can Do It Again
April 8th, 2026
Acts 1:1-11.
An EF2 tornado that came within a half mile of our house knocked out our power for a couple of days. Thanks to a mostly whole house generator, we didn’t experience too much hardship. No power? No problem.
It doesn’t work that way in the church. No Holy Spirit power? Big problems. There are no alternatives to the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the church. Nothing else compares.
The Day of Pentecost showed what the power of the Holy Spirit can do. Here is the good news: The same Spirit is alive today. Yet, too often we don’t experience the same power in our churches. There is no shortage of explanations for the power outage: sin in the camp, distractions, love of money, political posturing, pursuit of earthly power, lack of biblical teaching, poor leadership—the list could go on and on.
Those people filled with the Spirit on Pentecost had recent failures, too (remember all had deserted Jesus when He needed them the most). That didn’t stop them from praying, and that didn’t stop the Holy Spirit from coming. He can do it again.
