Among The First

1 Peter 2:1-10.

Did you know that you’ve been chosen? Perhaps you were like me and not often among those who were chosen first for group games and other endeavors. Maybe you were on the opposite side, always among the first chosen, or better yet, you were allowed to make the choice. I always appreciated when a teacher or other group leader would prearrange the groups for an activity. That way, the humiliation of always being among the “crumbs” was avoided.

Fortunately, God doesn’t make “crumbs.” Each one of us is precious in His sight. Scripture says we “are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession” (v. 9). Did you catch how that was written? It doesn’t say that you’re one of God’s cool collectables. It says you’re a special possession. God knows each of us by name and is fully aware of our flaws and yet He treasures each of us individually.

Have you allowed yourself to own that title today? Have you relished the fact that you are truly something special to the Father? Perhaps now would be a good time to reflect on how vast the Father’s love is for you.
