Active Hope
April 2nd, 2026
Romans 8:18-25.
“Who hopes for what they already have?” You may not have given this question much thought; I know I hadn’t. The obvious answer would be no one, as hope is reserved for outcomes that have yet to occur. We hope for promotions, raises, good reports, high grades, safe travel, and fair weather. We are thankful when hope comes to fruition.
Paul had a lot to say to the church in Rome. Among other things, he wanted them to remember that their eternal hope was tied directly to the redemption purchased for them on the cross. It was, is, and will continue to be God’s hope that His Son didn’t die in vain. He hopes that those whom He created in His image will choose to follow Christ and live as those who were bought with a price. God’s hope is for all to live eternally with Him.
What would happen if we actively hoped alongside the Father that those we encounter would choose redemption? What would it look like to actively hope for the salvation of others the way we hope for the things of this world? May we all live in that hope, that all would come to redemption.
