God’s Power Resides in Love
March 27th, 2026
1 Corinthians 13:1-10.
Love wins! We’ve heard this often. What does it actually mean? The answers are as numerous as the respondents. Let’s think about the following:
Love smiles even when circumstances appear problematic. No frowns, no combative retaliation; just a holy smile. There is no phony optimism that ignores real differences. But this is only the beginning.
Love acknowledges the inseparable bond that unites us as God’s people. The problem is, we too often wish to draw up the terms of acknowledgment. Jesus is the bond of love that unites us, not our statements or conclusions. Of course, we’re just beginning.
Love acknowledges differences without compromising biblical teachings. Some readers may rejoice, thinking, “Finally! the rubber meets the road.” There is no dichotomy here. There is a tension that must be carefully and tenderly held. To love people, we build bridges without cutting the cables that anchor them to the rock of God’s holiness. Burning bridges that Love built is never our duty.
Sometimes love isn’t easy. We continue to work and pray for wisdom in each situation. Remember, we aren’t the Shepherd. The sheep are His. Jesus gave us the rule of love. May we practice it by His guidance.
