To Be Like Christ

March 18th, 2026

Philippians 3:15-21.

We all know what the red triangle with the exclamation point means. When we see it on our car’s instrument panel or dashboard, our hearts start to pound, and we often race to the mechanic. Our minds think, “Warning! Warning!” Whatever the thought that crosses your mind, that image is not a good sign.

Paul was flashing that big warning sign. He was again reminding the church that there are many who will claim to be followers of Jesus, but they are really enemies of the cross of Christ.

Who these enemies are comes into focus in verse 19. These enemies of the cross may “walk the walk” and “talk the talk,” but the gift of Jesus is not working in them. These folks brag about the things that break the heart of Jesus. They focus on the things of earth and not of heaven.

As we grow in Jesus, we become more and more like Him; our empathy grows, our compassion grows, and our desire for justice grows. Growing pains are, well, a pain. We can expect a few pains as we grow and reflect the image of Jesus. Submitting to Jesus isn’t easy, but oh, is it worth it!
