Do Something!

February 10th, 2026

Matthew 25:22-30.

There is an old saying that goes like this: “I look around at all the needs in the world and wonder why somebody doesn’t do something. Then I realize, I am somebody.” Looking at all the problems and heartache in the world can be overwhelming. Seeing all the war, poverty, abuse, and so on is discouraging and may lead us to throw up our hands in frustration.

In Jesus’ parable of the talents, the master gave three servants talents according to their ability. Two servants doubled their talents, and one buried his. The two who increased their talents were praised and given more responsibility. The one who buried his talents was thrown out into darkness.

The point of the parable is not to elicit fear, paranoia, or a works-centered faith. The purpose is to tell us that Jesus will return, and, until that time we are to be workers in the kingdom of God.

Notice the master didn’t comment on the amount of the talents but focused on what each did with what they were given. Although we can’t solve world hunger or end all wars, we can do something. Today, may we consider what that something is and, with God’s guidance and strength, do it!
