Magnificence of Glorification
January 13th, 2026
Matthew 13:36-43.
One day, God will “weed out” of His kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. Weeds will be removed and the remaining impurities within the wheat will be perfected. The righteous will shine like the sun.
One overlooked doctrine is the doctrine of glorification: the final and culminating work of grace provided by the atonement of Christ. There are a series of gradual steps (including salvation and sanctification) whereby people are transformed as they respond to God’s grace. The last is glorification.
The Catholic Church teaches about purgatory (a place of gradual burning away or purification of varying degrees) required for most. It is seen as the perfecting work of God after death to prepare souls for heaven and the glorious presence of God.
The Protestant doctrine of glorification sees an instantaneous work of grace based on the provisions through Christ’s death, which is received at the article of death or at the person’s presentation for entrance into heaven.
Philippians 1:6 states, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
