God-Honoring Life

January 3rd, 2026

1 Peter 2:11-17.

One of the hardest truths about seeking to live a God-honoring life is that we can do everything correctly, treat everyone with perfect Christian love, and still find ourselves in conflict and tension with others. This is one of the consequences of living in a world that is marked by the brokenness of sin.

The history of the church is filled with examples of martyrs who followed Jesus in the midst of persecution, attacks, and even death. What should our response be to these pressures? Should we retreat away from the world? Seek to overthrow the oppressors? In our passage today, we are encouraged to the contrary, being called to submit even to human authority.

Our response to worldly pressure, even those who might accuse us of evil, is to live such good and godly lives that our opponents cannot help but notice our Spirit-inspired goodness, ultimately leading them to give glory to God. While we might not personally see that transformation in the hearts of others, the promise of Scripture is that our faithful witness will bring Him glory!
