Overwhelming Joy

Isaiah 51:7-13.

Gladness and joy will overtake them. Do you remember the last time you laughed till you cried? Or that joy overflowed from you? My nine-year-old often jumps for joy and excitement. It is like he has springs in his feet. Joy literally spills out of his entire body—his eyes, his mouth, his hands, and his feet.

Today’s verses tell us that joy will overtake those whom the Lord has rescued. While the verses are referring to the Israelites, it is for us as well. The Lord has rescued us; He offers those who believe in Him the ability to be rescued from sin and bondage. When we accept Christ, He rescues us from sorrow and being so overwhelmed with life that our only response is sighing. When we accept and walk with Christ, there is joy.

These verses say gladness and joy will overtake them. Today in the midst of all that is going on in life, the busyness, those things that threatens to overwhelm you, remember Christ has come to rescue you to allow you to have joy. This joy will overwhelm you.
