Choice and Consequences

December 2nd, 2025

Jesus, ChoiceGenesis 3:13-24.

I have two boys. The preschooler recently hit his brother hard on the back. Needless to say, there were tears. My preschooler did not understand why his older brother was upset and now unwilling to play with him. A hug and a sorry helped but did not take away the pain of the hit or the lack of desire to play anymore.

My preschooler is a sweet boy, but he is also learning boundaries and how to interact with his brother and the world. He is learning that his actions and choices have consequences. This is a lesson we have all been learning since the Garden of Eden.

Our scripture today relates the first time those consequences were felt, but it is not the last. As Adam and Eve’s choices did not affect just them, our choices and consequences do not affect just us. Christ’s death on the cross gives us access to the forgiveness of our sins but doesn’t erase the pain our choices cause or the consequences of our actions.

As we walk with Jesus today, let us work to make choices and take actions that transform us into His image.
