The Chosen One

December 1st, 2025

Isaiah 42:1-9.

The Israelites were waiting for justice; they waited a long time for it. They were waiting for a Savior to come and let justice rain down. Our Scripture today promises justice and continues to promise justice.

However, justice did not come quite like the Israelites thought it would. It did not come by overthrowing a government, or ousting a corrupt ruler, or avenging those who had been wronged. The Chosen One came in the form of a baby. The King and Savior came not to a royal palace or on an armored chariot, as some might have hoped. Instead, He came to a borrowed stable and a teenage couple. He was announced by angels to shepherds.

The Chosen One, on whom God’s Sprit rested, in whom God delighted and who would bring justice to the nations, did so as a servant—a servant who came as a baby and died on a cross. The justice that Jesus brought, and is still bringing, did not come the way people imagined it would.

Today, look for ways to follow Christ by being a servant.
