The Choice Is Clear: Life or Death

Deuteronomy 30:11-20.

Maybe you’ve heard someone ask you to “give it to you plain and simple.” Or maybe you’ve heard the phrase, “Just spell it out.” Our passage today does both. God made it plain to His people as to their choices regarding their future blessing or their future hardship. It’s all in the choices.

There is lots of covenantal language taking us back to Genesis 15 in this reading. Go back and reread it. Essentially, God was reengaging in the “I’m going to be your God, and you’re going to be my people” conversation.

In the case of today’s passage, there’s no margin for misunderstanding. The commandments God has given were not far off, but written on their hearts, indeed, the Word was on their lips! Nevertheless, God once again made it plain: If you live in this way, blessings, and if you live in a way outside the covenant, then curses.

To those who have made clear choices to obey and be faithful, the outcome truly is life and blessings! Hold fast to Him today that you may live.
