What Are You Wearing?
November 23rd, 2025
Colossians 3:12-17.
My youngest child spends one hour a week attending a ballet class. She joins a group learning several new ballet movements, all of which look easy until one attempts it (without lots of practice). All the students must come to class ready to listen and learn, following the direction and guidance of the teacher.
One of the ways the students show they are ready is by how they come dressed to class. Ballet is essentially various stretches, and athletic clothing designed for easy movement is the expectation. If you are not properly dressed, your ability to learn and perform is hindered.
What we “wear” is vital to our ability to learn and live as fully devoted followers of Christ. I’m not talking about a uniform, a particular fashion label, or even a dress code. The “clothing” I’m referring to is that which helps us best learn and live in God’s kingdom: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (v. 12). These characteristics sound a lot like the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), which suggests that what our lives “produce” is tied to what we wrap ourselves up in.
Today check yourself: Are you wearing kingdom clothing? If not, consider a wardrobe change.
