No More Mirrors

November 12th, 2025

Deuteronomy 11:1-7.

I’m not a fan of mirrors. If I look too closely, I see a new wrinkle here and a new grey hair there. Ugh! I feel the same about selfies on our cell phones. Selfies and mirrors these days are not my friend. I don’t always like my reflection.

The world could probably use less “selfies” and more “Jesus-ies.” We need more folks (starting with me) reflecting Jesus. I don’t want to reflect the values and priorities of the world. I want to reflect Jesus. I don’t want to reflect the self-centered, me-first generation. I want to reflect Jesus. I don’t want to reflect a little commitment, halfhearted, not-really-serving, sometimes hot, usually not, sitting-on-the-fence type of believer. I want to reflect Jesus.

I want to reflect Jesus in my coming and going. I want to reflect Jesus in my words and my deeds. I want to reflect Jesus in every possible situation.

In other words, mirrors and selfies we could do without. Attitudes that reflect Jesus is what we can do with. The Holy Spirit’s empowered and transformative work inside of you and me is what enables us to be like Jesus. More and more of that is what our world needs.
