It’s Up to You

2 Timothy 1:1-5.
My Christian history goes back many generations. For this I am grateful beyond words. There is, however, one interesting fact that I discovered in conversations with my parents. Neither one of them left me with a first-hand, conversion story.
How could this be? They both grew up in their respective churches, surrounded by Sunday School teachers and other Christian workers. In my opinion, here is what happened.
Both of my parents were raised in exceptional Christian homes that encapsulated them from birth in the story of God. My mother was baptized as an infant, confirming her own decision following catechism. My father was an early seeker after Christ, listening to his preacher-father tell the gospel story.
From this, here is what I believe: The church can’t do your job! You are the most important person in the life of your children. You will either pour yourself (and your values) into them, or a surrogate from the world will gladly assume your responsibility at a cost you may not want to imagine.
