Natural Consequences

October 27th, 2025

Deuteronomy 4:15-20.

One of the most natural teaching moments happens when we experience “natural consequences.” We may have been warned. We may have been instructed. We may have been reminded over and over. However, if we choose a behavior, there is a natural consequence that we will endure. That’s how life works.

Sometimes, someone in our life may choose to intervene and step in to eliminate the consequence that follows a choice. While this isn’t inherently wrong, we do know that children who never experience the consequences of their actions have a harder time making wise choices.

God warned the Israelites that there were consequences to worshiping idols rather than God. Did God warn them? Yes. Did God instruct them of the right way to worship and why we worship God only? Yes. Did God remind them? Yes. And yet, the Israelites had the right to choose. The consequences that followed that choice would either be beneficial to them, or not.

Think about the consequences that follow the choice to worship God alone. Think about the consequences that follow the choice to worship anything other than God. What do you choose today?

There is no other choice. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
