Walking Advertisements

Psalm 19-7-14.
Humanity likes to sing the praises of the things they love. Perhaps it is a specific brand, or a place of business, or a particular item on a restaurant menu. When you love something, it’s easy to talk about it endlessly, becoming a walking advertisement for whatever is the object of our affections.
In Psalm 19, David voiced his praise for God’s law. Imagine if you will a shepherd boy sitting under a tree, pen in hand, recording for posterity his advertisement for God’s law. Among other things, David stated that God’s law is perfect, radiant, firm, righteous, and that it endures forever. He also proclaimed that it is more precious than gold, sweeter than honey straight from the comb. David goes on to say that there is great reward for obeying God’s law. He also admits that he needs help following it, asking for forgiveness for his faults.
May we be like David, an endless advertisement for God’s love and grace. May we also be like the psalmist when he says, “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).
