Rules and Consequences
October 20th, 2025
Deuteronomy 4:1-7.
Ever encounter a rule you didn’t like? Perhaps it was a procedure or a policy that you felt was unfair. It’s probably safe to say that even those who deem themselves law-abiding, following the rules most of the time, have run into at least one rule they felt compelled to bend . . . or even break.
When sin entered the world, it caused the need for rules and consequences. Following the rules comes easily to some, and to others, not so much. The Old Testament can sound like a recording on repeat at times. God gave His people rules, they disregarded those rules, God reminded them of said rules, and then they were forced to face the consequences of breaking the rules. It was an ugly cycle brought on by sin.
Whether or not we choose to abide by regulations put forth by an organization says a lot about our character. When we choose to align ourselves with the Father, we choose whether to follow God’s laws. That in turn says a lot about us as a Christ-follower.
Father, today let our regard for Your law be evident as we endeavor to be more like You each day.
