Be Open To God’s Grace
October 15th, 2025
Numbers 21:1-9.
This iconic passage in Scripture requires perhaps more than just a few more moments over coffee and toast to ponder. Yet, if this is your allotted time and meal for this devotional, we’ll cover the short version and press on.
Israel was wandering in the desert on their way to the promised land. For some strange reason, the king of Arad thought it would be a good idea to attack Israel and take these people captive. One would think their story of God’s favor for them and among them would prevent this.
A vow, or pact is made with God against this enemy and the words “completely destroy” in the text is closer to “utterly annihilated.” We don’t have time to ponder all this today, but let’s just say they were delivered and call it His grace in action.
As they continued to wander, the people got discouraged and complained about the food choice. This amounted to disgust toward God about what He had provided! They named His provision “miserable.” Let’s keep receipts here. One: delivery and routing of the enemy. God’s grace. Two: food in a wasteland provided by God. God’s grace.
What are we seeing of God’s grace in our lives today? Are we thankful?
