God Designs The Plans

Numbers 20:7-13.
We are creatures of plans and action. We want to have “the plan” and implement it as quickly as we can to get the quickest and best result we can. We are not creatures who operate with much patience for the seasons of waiting. We want a plan and we want it now!
God has a plan; Moses and Aaron were waiting for that plan in this tough situation. First, we see God’s sovereign leadership in the words, “The LORD said.” God, in this case, spoke right away with a specific action to take. He said, “Take the staff and . . . speak to that rock . . . and it will pour out its water” (v. 7).
Yet, Moses did not do the plan as exacted by God. He struck the rock with the rod. Yes, the rock yielded the water for a positive outcome, but this was not the plan. Because the plan was enacted without belief, Moses and Aaron were unable to enter the land that God had given His people.
We often not only want the quick “God plan,” we also want to insert a smidge of our own plan. This is a reminder this day that God’s plan, and God’s alone, is best.
