You Are Not Alone

Numbers 14:1-9.

We have been talking about making choices for the last few days. The Israelites, having been freed from slavery, saved throughout their travels in the desert, and guided to a new homeland, now had a choice to make: Trust God or sin through disobedience. Undoubtedly, they were afraid. I cannot imagine how I would feel facing a land of people stronger and bigger than myself. Yet, God had brought them this far.

More than once the Israelites were reassured: Do not be afraid. God was aware of their response to these strong people. God did not brush it aside or ridicule them for being afraid. Rather God comforted them over and over: Do not be afraid.

Why? Because God is with us. If God had asked them to deal with this all on their own, then we would certainly understand their desire to say “No” to such a request. However, God assured the Israelites that they would not go alone. God was with them.

This is one of the most comforting and encouraging truths: We are not alone. God goes with us. Do not be afraid!
