The Fear Factor
October 7th, 2025
Numbers 13:26-33.
Israel was faced with choices that are harder to make. Canaan was a land “flowing with milk and honey,” rich in resources, and wonderful to live in. Yet, there was a small problem. In fact, the problem was the big, strong people already living there. They were huge and the Israelites were scared!
Remember our devotional yesterday? Sometimes making a good choice is easy. Today, the Israelites had to make another choice—this one had to be based on trust in God, not fear. The choice to explore the land didn’t phase them. They jumped at the chance. Now, however, they were afraid that they would be pummeled by the larger, stronger inhabitants.
Fear was calling the shots. Fear was keeping the Israelites from remembering all the times that God had rescued them, forgiven them, cared for them, and loved them. God wasn’t asking them to do something impossible. God was asking them to choose to trust Him, to choose to obey Him.
Think back to a time when you were faced with a choice and fear was a factor. How did you allow God to help you pass the fear into His hands? Place your faith in His ability to care for you today.
