Do It Anyway

October 3rd, 2025

Romans 6:15-23.

Ever hear a kid say they didn’t want to do something? Did you ever follow it with “do it anyway?” Kids in my classroom have heard that occasionally. Usually there’s a quick explanation about how school is their job and that doing the task is part of their job. Eventually, they concede and live to tell about it.

Romans 6:22 says, “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.” “Slaves to God” might sound contradictory to being “set free from sin” but it really isn’t. Following Christ isn’t about being God’s lackeys. It’s about reflecting His goodness.

God doesn’t always call us based on our resumes. There will be times when an assignment is a perfect fit. Then there are those who are called to do a task that is completely foreign and requires a great deal of on-the-job training. God certainly qualifies those whom He calls.

It can be hard to remember that you’re building the kingdom when an assignment is difficult. You are not alone. God brought you to this place and is with you always.
