Leviticus 19:23-37.

There’s a young lady who has a fascination with a popular drive-in restaurant. Several times a week, she asks one of the parental units for a trip to this locale. I learned some time ago not to say, “I don’t have any money” but instead to say, “I don’t have [restaurant’s name] money.” In time, she will learn that it’s not just about having money, but about all that must be paid for with said money. Until then, I will be the keeper of her currency and defender of my own.

Just as it is important that we budget so that we’re able to fulfill our obligations, it is important that we follow all of God’s laws and decrees. We just can’t devote our energy to a selection of God’s commands. We must obey all of them.

God’s law isn’t a menu at a restaurant, where we choose what we want. God said, “I’m God, do what I ask of you, and all of it.” Jonah learned that lesson the hard way when he chose not to go to Ninevah. Likewise, we run the risk of learning hard lessons of our own when we don’t do as God asks.
