Right-Relatedness
September 12th, 2025
2 Corinthians 5:16-20.
The word “righteousness” could be replaced with “right-relatedness,” meaning we are aligned correctly with God and with each other. Because we have a new relationship with God in Jesus, we also have a new relationship with each other: A relationship that is new, that is joyful, and that is doing right by each other and by God.
Verse 18 says that we have “the ministry of reconciliation,” and verse 20 calls us “Christ’s ambassadors” and “the righteousness of God.” As followers of Jesus, we are called to be examples of what being right-related means to the world. We are reminding people that they are able to have a new relationship with God in Jesus as well, that we are both part of the renewal and renewing of the world into the shape of the kingdom of heaven.
Our understandings of each other are not limited to our relationships of the world, but in eternity as well. We are part of the ministry of drawing people back to the community of Christ, just as Christ drew us in first.
Are there areas in your life that need reconciliation? Where can God’s righteousness, or right-relatedness, be more strongly present in your journey?
