In Love, Share the Gospel

August 29th, 2025

1 Corinthians 13:1-7.

In today’s passage, Paul highlights “love.” He is not speaking of a romantic or sentimental feeling, such as when one “falls in love.” For Paul, love is “behavior. To love is to act; anything short of action is not love at all.”* Thus, Paul instructs elsewhere, “Follow God’s example, . . . and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:1-2).

Love here is self-forgetting behavior. To “walk in the way of love” is to act or speak—or maybe not act or not speak—in ways that build up others in the community of God’s people. Whatever the gifts God may have gifted to me—”tongues,” “prophecy,” and more, all worthy—without love my “life before God adds up to zero”** (1 Corinthians 13:3).

Is our love-behavior “patient,” “kind,” non-boasting? Is anger controlled? Do we forget about “wrongs”? Take stock today.
